Putting the FUN in Fundraising

One of my favorite memories from childhood was a carnival that I organized as a 10-year-old for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.  I clearly remember Jerry Lewis inviting kids to get involved fundraising by hosting a carnival in their neighborhood. It seemed like a fun thing to do for a good cause.

As you can see by the photo, there was a group of family and friends who all became involved. My parents jumped in with both feet, making clown costumes, creating booths, and designing games.  We had a fortune teller (my cousin Lauri), clowns, bean bag throws, and many fun activities. In the end we raised just over $200. We had so much fun, brought the community together, and created memories that we still talk about decades later.

I’ve gone on to organize and participate in many fundraisers over the years for many different organizations. There have been walk-a-thons, food sales, craft fairs, and dance-a-thons, which I remember as being a lot of work, but also being a lot of fun.

What is something you like to do, and how can you turn it into a fundraiser for a worthy cause?  I think that giving should bring you joy. My experience has been that whenever I’ve been feeling a sense of lack or not having enough, I know it’s my signal to give.  That might sound contradictory, but what I’ve experienced is that once I give, it gives me positive energy, and usually the good comes back to me in some way.

Donations are of course critical for charitable organizations to carry out the programs that support the people or mission they serve. I would like to invite you to consider some FUN fundraising for the children and families we serve at the Children’s Legacy Partnership Foundation.  Take something you like to do, bring together friends and family, and you’ll make lasting memories, and a lasting difference for others.

Let us know about your fundraising and we’ll get you materials you can hand out, as well as give you any help and support we can.

You can check out our infographic for some fundraising ideas. We’re proud to say that 100% of all funds raised go directly to our program recipients. As a donor you’ll also get to see the direct results of your fundraising efforts!
