A Healthy Start In Life

It was great to meet Dinnah and her baby Ronald!

With our expanded work in rural communities in Uganda this year, you have helped children get a healthy start in life.

One of the most challenging issues our team faces is helping single teen mothers who have no resources, no one to turn to.

Thanks to our presence in the rural villages, Dinnah, Ruth, and Nuru all had a place to turn to for help during their pregnancy.  Our team members, all parents themselves, were able to provide some counseling for the girls. Then, we put out the need to get the girls prenatal care, a safe birth plan, and some baby supplies and food.

Of course, as always, you, our wonderful donors, responded!

In a place where the maternal death rate is high, you helped Dinnah, Ruth, and Nuru deliver their babies in a hospital.  This gave them a much better start in life!!

Each of these new mothers received some baby supplies to get started such as blankets, soap, clothes, and mosquito nets. (Malaria is especially dangerous for infants.)

Our team is also able to follow up with the new moms and make sure their babies are gaining weight and healthy.

Ruth and Nelson and Nuru and Wilson!

I was also able to visit Ruth who had just given birth four days prior, and hold her baby boy Nelson.  Both were doing well and staying with an aunt who is helping them for a little while.  Ruth has been attending the tailoring training at our vocational center and will continue her education once she is recovered. Thanks to our donors, she'll have a way to help support herself and Nelson with the skills she is learning!

Nuru gave birth just a few days ago. Again, thanks to you, our generous donors, She was able to deliver her son Wilson safely in a maternity clinic. The team also brought her much-needed baby supplies!  We're still fundraising to provide Nuru with some food for the coming weeks.

Ensuring these young mothers had a safe delivery and getting them supplies to keep their babies healthy, goes a long way to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Dinnah, Ruth, and Nuru are all so grateful for the help you have given them and their babies.  They felt scared and alone, and your support helped them feel that they were valued and cared for.

Thank you for your life-saving donations!

 With Gratitude,

Mary
