Very Important Progress

Amigula is one of the teen girls in Nabwigulu village who advocated for herself and others in her community to get period supplies.

It always makes me happy when I can give you good news!  There are so many times when we see such incredible poverty in Uganda.

But when we know that we've been able to make a difference it's cause for celebration, and that difference is because of you.

Thanks to you, our donors, last week, the girls received a kit with reusable pads, carry cases, knickers, soap, and a wash bucket.  All were delivered in a nice tote bag! The girls at our vocational center made the reusable pads, the carry cases, and the tote bags which helped provide an income for them.

The girls also attended a reproductive health class held by our advisors Lucy, Betty, and Hilda where they learned important information to keep themselves safe and healthy.

The other day I was listening to a webinar on fundraising, because of course that is how I spend a lot of my time !  The speaker was reminding us to stop and celebrate our successes.  That was a good reminder for me because there are so many children in need, and I often feel like I'm falling short.

You, our donors, have made so much possible!

I want you to take the time to celebrate the difference you are making for the children and people we serve.

It seems like such a simple thing to provide, but when families are struggling to survive, they can't afford period supplies. We've found that the kits and the classes are one of the best ways to help lift teen girls out of poverty.

Period supplies are critical for girls who attend school. Without these supplies they miss 25% of their schooling and then often have to drop out.

This sustainable project continues to help many girls and women in the rural villages have dignity and freedom.

Each kit costs us $25 to make and when we can get the supplies in bulk it's even a bit less.

The kits with reusable pads can last each girl about two years. They cost less and have much less impact on the environment than disposable pads.

That is a great $25 investment!

Period poverty is an issue that affects millions of girls in the world.  I know it's not a topic a lot of people feel comfortable talking or reading about, so thanks for sticking with me!

This is one of the many ways your donations make a difference for others!

We are honored to once again be the show beneficiary at Glowcon, a personal development day for women in Pinehurst, North Carolina. I'll be sharing our mission with the participants and we're hoping to raise enough to provide 100 more girls with the kits!

 With Gratitude,

Mary

P.S.- I know I use a lot of exclamation marks in my emails to you. But you deserve them and we are all overwhelmed by your generosity.  The next time someone asks you what's new, brag on yourself a bit and tell them how you are helping lift children out of poverty through your donations to CLP!
