A New School Year!

Kuluthum had to leave school when her elderly grandmother could no longer afford her tuition.  She came to us to ask for help. Thanks to your donations, she will now be able to go back to school.  It won't be easy for her since she's missed two years. But she is very determined to succeed!

There's a buzz in the air as kids in Uganda get ready to go back to school next week. They're just finishing their summer vacation and the new year goes from February until November.

When I tell you kids in Uganda are desperate to go to school, it's not an exaggeration.  An education is seen as the way out of poverty.

Because of your generosity, twelve children who would not otherwise be able, are going back to school!  For some students, we've been able to fund their full school year. For others, we've been able to fund their first semester and we will continue raising funds throughout the year.

Once again, the 5th and 6th-grade students at Hinesburg Community School in Vermont, USA have made an incredible difference in helping send kids in Uganda to school!  They held another “Penny War” and raised $1500!! I'm not sure which class won the war, but the big winners are the children who will be able to go to school in Uganda this year!  We can't thank them enough!

Our team members Aminsi and Hilda spent many long days traveling around on a boda, getting supplies (yes, even the required rolls of toilet paper), filling out forms, and getting the students registered. Imagine trying to get a dozen children ready for a new school year with most at different schools!

Martha is starting Primary 3 and Monika is starting Primary 4!

There are so many children in Kamuli who need help to go to school and we can't help them all. The children we are supporting this year are living in the most dire of circumstances, but are determined to learn.

Each and every one of the kids you are helping were overjoyed when they knew they could go back to school!

We hope someday the system will change in Uganda, and all kids can go to school for free. Until then we will keep doing what we can for the most vulnerable children.

If you'd like to donate to help more students go to school in Uganda, you can click on the Donate link below. It's not too late to get them registered!

I'll be posting and sending updates about the kids as they progress in school. They all want me to pass along their gratitude. Your donations have made a lasting difference for these kids!

With Gratitude,

Mary

P.S. Thanks to so many of you for your kind comments last week. It was greatly appreciated!
