Our Vision for 2024
2023 was a year of growth for the Children’s Legacy Partnership and Kapida, our partner in Uganda.
Kapida’s community and NGO (non-governmental organization) status was recertified in Uganda. This is important as we work together to provide our education and support programs. We’ve had a long and successful partnership.
Twelve girls graduated from our skilling program at our small vocational center in the Buwudha village. They will be seeking jobs, or starting their own businesses.
Our first school garden project was started at Nayenga Primary to provide improved nutrition for 770 children. This is also a teaching garden where the kids and staff are learning more sustainable growing techniques.
30 trees were planted at the school to aid in reforestation and help with climate change.
100+ girls received reusable period supplies and reproductive health education.
Women in 7 savings and business groups started new businesses and strengthened existing ones to be able to support their children. There are now over 400 women in these groups!
Students in the U.S. learned leadership skills, did community service projects, and did a cultural exchange with students in Uganda. 100+ students in the U.S. participated in our Connecting Cultures program.
Every day children were helped because of you! Your generous donations changed lives and saved lives!
And … 2024 is going to be even better!
Already we are sending 4 children back to school who otherwise would not have gone.
More teen girls will be attending programs at the vocational center and we will be expanding counseling services and career follow up once they finish the program.
Our Connecting Cultures U.S. to Uganda programs will be in more schools in early 2024.
The women’s savings and business groups continue to grow. The community craft and weaving project will be starting by mid-year.
Period supplies and reusable pads are going to hundreds more girls this year. Once we can fund an overlock sewing machine this project will move even faster and the pads will be higher quality and last longer.
The Bridge to Success project that we have started will provide resources for more immediate needs in the communities. This includes food relief, housing repair, and primary school fees.
We hope to secure a piece of land to start building our community resource center. This is a multi-year project that will start with a teaching garden.
More school gardens are in the plans to improve nutrition for children.
With Gratitude,
Mary
