Stitching Together a Future
Greetings From the Girls at Our Vocational Center!
We wanted to show you inside our Girls' Vocational Center in Buwudha village this week in this short video. Each day the girls come to learn a skill. Some are learning tailoring, and some are learning hairdressing. These are two very employable skills in rural Uganda.
This is all possible because of you, our donors!
Since starting this program about 3 years ago, more and more girls want to come and learn. There are no other resources for these girls in this remote village.
The girls who attend can no longer go to school for various reasons. They can't afford the school fees or have missed too much school to be able to return. These are still some of the lingering effects of the Covid shutdowns. Some of the girls are young mothers who need a way to support their children.
Our team member Hilda is a strong advocate for the girls. She's able to give them some counseling and guidance.
Our hope in the future is to find a bigger space so more girls can attend the classes. Right now we're at our capacity of 20 girls.
We'd also like to have a space for a nursery or preschool for their children while the moms are learning. Literacy classes and more counseling services are also on our wish list for the girls.
I love seeing the beautiful fabrics and what the girls create. It's wonderful watching their confidence grow!
Thank you for all you do!
With Gratitude,
Mary
P.S.- If you're feeling inspired, you are welcome to pass this blog post along to friends and family! We'd love to introduce more people to CLP and we could use your help!
