Moving Forward Together
Meet the Bamukisa Women's Savings Group!
They met recently for a day of thanksgiving, organized by Betty Dhizaala. Betty is the director of Kapida which helps us deliver our programs in Kamuli, Uganda.
The women came together to share their successes along with a wonderful meal. They also had a learning session on business strategies.
Each of the women in the group has started a small business. The businesses vary from a selling stall to a hair salon to raising livestock.
The group started with 1,000,000 shillings (about $300 USD) and now has 4,800,000 shillings (about $1500 USD) in their group account from loan repayments.
This is incredible progress, especially considering the challenges of the Covid shutdowns!
These savings groups have become very organized with written procedures, a code of conduct, spreadsheets, a chairwoman, and a treasurer. The funds are now held in a bank account.
You can see there are also a couple of men in the photo. When some of the men saw how successful the group was they wanted to join!
This is one of our most effective and sustainable programs for breaking the cycle of poverty for children in the villages. We continue to collect data for each of our seven women's groups to measure the outcomes on health, food security, and children's education.
With over 35 people in the group, there is a strong, positive impact on the community.
The women have gained confidence and it's wonderful to see how they support each other! Thanks to you, our donors, for making this possible!
With Gratitude,
Mary
P.S.- If you're feeling inspired, you are welcome to pass this blog along to friends and family! We'd love to introduce more people to CLP and we could use your help!
