What’s in a Name?

The name Children's Legacy Partnership is always a mouthful!

Back when I started the foundation finding a name that conveyed our vision was challenging.

I wanted it to be short but it was hard to find a name that wasn't taken. After a lot of brainstorming the name grew out of what we hoped to accomplish.

 The Children…

Our focus is on helping the most vulnerable children. Those who don't have anyone to advocate for them, to be in their corner.  This extends to the single mothers struggling to raise their children and the teen girls who are most often on the lowest rung of the social ladder in Uganda.

It also extends to our children in the U.S. who benefit from our personal leadership skills conferences and connecting cultures programs.

 The Legacy…

The word legacy came out of a deep frustration that I was feeling seeing so many children suffering from the effects of poverty, disease, and war conflicts.  It also grew from seeing so many children being the victims of gun violence in the U.S.

Back when I was a teacher, we were doing many “shelter in place” drills in school to prepare for active shooter situations. It was taking a toll on me, and I could see what it was doing to my students.

I remember thinking,”Is this the legacy we are leaving for our children?”

We want each child to reach their full potential. Then we also want them to leave a legacy of helping others.

Those who have experienced the greatest challenges are often the fiercest advocates for others.

The Partnership…

The partnership is all about you, our donors and supporters. You are what fuels the work we do and the progress the children are able to make.

Without you, there is no foundation.

I always say we are a small but mighty foundation. Because of your generosity, we have been able to provide support for hundreds of children in the past seven years lifting them out of poverty!

We have a deep belief that we are stronger together.  We have been able to grow and help children with donations from you.  We don't have big corporations or foundations giving us money (although that would be nice if you know of any!).

The needs of so many children have been met because of our strength in coming together.

Partnering with other organizations is also important in carrying out our mission.  We know that working together with others is the best way to help children.

We partner with KAPIDA in Kamuli, Uganda. They are a community organization with the knowledge and connections for what is most needed.

As we grow to increase the number of children we help, we know we will be growing our partnerships as well.

Thank you for your partnership on this journey with us to create a legacy for our children where they are valued, safe, seen, and supported!

With Gratitude,

Mary

P.S.-  We would love to partner with businesses who want to have a social impact by supporting the work of our foundation. If you are a business owner, or know of one who would like to learn more about CLP, send me an email.
