What a Difference a Year Makes!

Rehemah with her report card! Without your help this would not have been possible!

Last year at this time, I was asking for support for some children In Uganda who were orphaned and desperately wanted to go to school.

You rose to the challenge and we raised enough to send 12 children to school.  As the results come in from the various schools they are in, we are excited that so far all have passed to the next grade.

Monika, Talifa, Godfrey and Martha (who I shared with you last week)  received some of the highest marks in their class despite living in very impoverished conditions.

This is no easy task in Uganda. As I've mentioned before, just getting to school is a challenge. Then, trying to do the required homework without electricity is an obstacle. These children are so grateful to all of you for your support! They are so proud of their results.

The most remarkable results were received by Rehemah. You might remember she was crawling in the dirt because she does not have use of her lower legs and could not attend school.

Thanks to you, our wonderful donors, we raised the funds for a wheelchair and some school supplies. Well, off she went to school and I think her smile says it all!

In case you didn't see the video of the day Rehemah's wheelchair arrived you can check it out here on our YouTube channel. It will warm your heart! Sometimes if I need a boost I play it because it reminds me of what is important, and what is possible when we all come together.

You might also remember Emmanuel who was pounding rocks to sell (at 6 years old)! so he could buy food for himself and his grandmother. He captured all of our hearts! One year later he looks healthy and happy, has finished 1st grade, and is moving up to 2nd!  Meeting him in person and giving him a big hug was one of the highlights of this past year for me!

Supporting education is one way we are breaking the cycle of poverty for children and your donations make an incredible difference.  With each year a child stays in school, they have a better chance of being able to support themselves.  For girls, it can make all the difference in keeping them safe from forced early marriage and teen pregnancy.

As you reflect on your year, I hope you realize what a difference your donations make because it is absolutely remarkable!

Thank you for partnering with us to make a difference for these children!

 With Gratitude,

 Mary
